We’ve tried anti itch creams ( she licks them off);she has brewers yeast and linatone added to her diet. She has large patches around her tail that go comepletely bald in the spring…she’s a mix of border collie and australian shepherd. We’ve tried some many different things I am clueless as to how to proceed. And YES she’s been to the vet so often for this problem I told them to install a revolving door in their office with all the money I’ve paid them.We are looking for any alternative forms of relief besides dipping her in mud 24/7. I say this because it seems to relieve some of her symptoms when she rolls in mud.

Hi,

One of my clients has a 1.5 year old male Labrador (I am a professional dog walker).

In the last two weeks these little bald patches are showing up on his on the side of his chest. They aren’t inflamed or red, just missing fur! Rounded little bald patches about 4cm wide. Another one has shown up in the space of the weekend.

He isn’t chewing or itching himself. He hasn’t had a diet change and his is perfectly healthy otherwise. No fleas of visible parasites. He also has all his shots.

I am also the one that gives him his baths. We use good quality Aloveen (purchased from the Vets) oatmeal shampoo and conditioner. He has a bath roughly every two - three weeks. I know this is frequent - although the little 7 year old girl in the family get a bit of a allergic reaction to his fur / saliva … so we try to keep him clean for this reason.

Any ideas?
Ive seen Mange recently in one of my boxers, he was actually quite ill and loosing conditional rapidly. Harry (the Labrador in question) is perfectly healthy clinically.
I would say no to ring worm as he has regular worming treatments too. Plus there is no inflammation or redness or scaly feel or look to the spots.

Good answers so far, thank you!
Noted Shanna. Thanks. I actually did know in the back of my head ringworm isn’t a worm - maybe just a blond moment! ha!

The patches are lighter in colour than her usual coat and are appearing on her back, sides and torso. There has been no change to her diet or routine and she is fit and healthy.
